A LOCAL caravan park has been closed until further notice due to the risk of flooding, however, managers have disputed claims a failing levee was a reason for the decision.
The Riverbend Caravan Park, in Renmark, was closed on Tuesday, with all current guests evacuated, due to the current River Murray flood event.
A statement issued by the SES on Tuesday advised "the Renmark Riverbend Caravan Park levee is failing and there is a risk of flood waters threatening the safety of people in the park".
"Park residents and visitors need to evacuate immediately," the statement read.
However, a statement on the caravan park's Facebook page advised "the levees did not break, nor was the park inundated with water".
"We have been working tirelessly with the authorities on the engineering of our levees and have been conducting regular inspections with them to ensure the continued safety of our guests," the statement read.
"This was a precautionary decision in the best interest of our guests.
"All guests in the park at the time of the decision were given ample notice before the evacuation was activated."
The caravan park statement advised "guests with upcoming bookings will be contacted in the coming days to discuss rebooking".
"Unfortunately, the hour of this decision meant upcoming guests weren’t contacted prior to the public announcement," the statement read.
Riverbend Caravan Park advised further updates would be provided through the Facebook page.
