Ex-mayor waste worry is spot on
I AM writing about the article in last week’s Murray Pioneer about the ex-mayor of the Berri Barmera Council, and the debacle of the council’s new hard waste scheme (‘Council a hard target of ex-mayor’s view’, 29/10/25).

Mr Hunt is correct with his assessment of the scheme.
The voucher has attached a list of the things that are accepted, but council has said to me that the “water level” is a height of around 300mm.
However, it lists things such as whitegoods, fridges, hot water units, tanks, empty drums, mattress (which are over 6 foot long and won’t fit into a 6x4 trailer), etc.
Council then informed me that it was up to Cleanaway’s discretion as to what they will class as appropriate”.
Cleanaway charges ratepayers to deposit “green waste”. I understand most councils have a no-fee policy. I suspect anything over the waterline will be inappropriate.
