Waikerie keep a clean sheet en route to big win

WAIKERIE put on a masterclass of clinical attacking hockey on Friday night, storming to a resounding 6-0 victory over a proud Sunraysia line-up.

The game belonged entirely to Lucas Hocking, who put on an absolute shooting clinic to slot four magnificent goals, alongside singles from James Smith and Will Kroehn.

The classic local rivalry between Berri and Loxton produced an absolute grandstand thriller, with Berri digging incredibly deep to edge out their foes 4-3.
Driven by the immense work rates of Todd Kitto and Liam Russak, Berri found just enough avenues to hold off a passionate Loxton fightback led by goals from Darcy Everet, Jay Botten, and Kieran Bear.

Renmark showcased their trademark grit and structure to claim a comprehensive 4-0 victory in the B grade over a spirited Loxton Punjabi side. Harrison Cooper and Kieran Christian orchestrated play beautifully from the midfield, clearing paths for Declan Smart, and themselves, to score the side’s goals.

Waikerie kept their club’s momentum rolling straight into the other B grade clash, locking down a hard-earned 4-0 clean sheet against Loxton. Will Kroehn was everywhere on the turf, leading the best player votes and combining beautifully with fellow goalscorers Matt Wenske, Steve Traeger, and Darren Brewer.

The A grade women treated spectators to a truly captivating, high-intensity match as Waikerie just managed to slide past Sunraysia 2-1. Abbey Edwards put the team on her back to earn best-on-ground honours, while scoring alongside Justice Ebert.

Sunraysia’s Eleen Hugo and Hanna Fletcher fought with immense pride to keep the pressure on until the final whistle, allowing Hannah Benson to pull one back in a grandstand finish.

Defence was the theme of the round, as Berri scraped through with a narrow 1-0 win over Renmark. A lone, crucial strike from Nicole Mentha and plenty of support from Kristen Hibberd made all the difference in the tight tussle.

Waikerie mirrored that fighting spirit perfectly in their match, riding a solitary Vicki Schmidt goal and an inspired defensive game from Opal Prince to hold off a determined Loxton side 1-0.

Berri’s junior stars played with immense joy and flair to defeat Renmark 7-1, led by an unstoppable four-goal haul from Amelia Bowers, and a dominant midfield display by Duke Fiebig.

Waikerie also tasted success with a beautiful 3-0 victory over Loxton, executing a perfect team game plan. Jessica Cronin, Braxton Murphy, and Jacob Isaacson shared the scoring duties equally while sweeping the top three player votes.

Berri come home strongly in their 5-1 victory over Renmark in the under 12 fixture. The were fuelled by a brilliant, match-winning four-goal performance from young star Jude Vallelonga.

Meanwhile, Loxton’s youngest players finished their weekend with smiles, defeating Waikerie 2-0 courtesy of a decisive double-strike from Ryan Schulz.
