DAMAGE caused to the Waikerie ferry’s guide drive wheels by debris caused it to cease operations for nearly four hours yesterday.
The ferry broke down at about 1pm in the middle of the River Murray with two cars on board.
A Department for Infrastructure and Transport spokesperson said the cars safely disembarked at the Waikerie township landing point where the guide drive wheels were repaired.
He said the ferry resumed normal operations at 4.45pm.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport thanked the community for its patience.
EDIT: A previous version of this article claimed the ferry was closed due to a broken cable. This was incorrect.
