Waikerie steal points off Berri in penultimate round

RIVERLAND hockey action enters the final minor round match after some cracking matches over the weekend saw the campaign get interesting.

In the A men, Waikerie and Berri played out a 1-1 draw, as Lucas Hocking and Todd Kitto netted the goals for Waikerie and Berri respectively.

For Waikerie, Brylee Denim and Connor Grant were two of the stars on the pitch, while Berri were led by Jameson Radloff and Brett Stokes.

In the other A men’s game, Loxton claimed a two-goal win over Sunraysia. Despite efforts by Aaron Qualman and Victor Collins, Loxton netted two goals through Joel Hopper and Jayden Everett to claim the crucial win.

Loxton claimed a 1-0 victory over Renmark in the B men action, with the lone goal coming from Hardav Dhaliwal, with great individual games for Loxton’s Daniel Schubert and Jai Mickan.

Meanwhile, Berri pulled off a 5-1 victory in the other B men’s match, thanks to two goals each from Ryan Vallelonga and Hamish Eske.

Two goals from Will Kroehn and Matthew Wenske failed to get Waikerie the win.

The A women action saw Berri claim a nailbiting 2-1 win over Waikerie. Two goals from Layla Vallelonga saw Berri home, despite efforts from Alana Matulick and Jade Kroehn for the opposition.

In junior hockey, Berri claimed a 8-0 win over Waikerie in the under 17 mixed match, with three goals courtesy of Henry Coote. Murphy Braxton and Jess Cronin never gave up all game for Waikerie, playing great hockey for their side.

Berri again claimed a 3-1 win over Waikerie in the under 14s, with Coote again scoring multiple goals in the victory. A Jacob Isaacson goal for Waikerie fell short of securing points, as Amalia Bowers also netted for Berri.

The other under 14 game was dominated by Loxton, as four goals from Ryan Schulz guided his side to a win over Renmark.

Cooper Vowles scored the only goal for Renmark while Loxton had singles from Will Fielke, Jamie Doecke and Jagger Row to make their seven goals.

Coote once again dominated under 12 hockey action, scoring two of Berri’s five goals in their win over Waikerie, who were held goalless.

While Loxton claimed a 3-0 win over Renmark in their under 12 match, with single goals coming through Ryan Schulz, Kendall Row and Mason Timmins.
