THE 2020 EXAM CRAM
2 min read

THE SACE race is on for local year 12 students as they prepare for the most challenging schooling period of their lives.
The year is almost over for year 12s as exams begin Monday, November 2, starting with mathematical methods and essential mathematics, two exams in which three Loxton High School students – Jana Badran, Sam Nitschke and Brianna Hobby – are participating in.
Jana said although COVID interrupted her senior year, being in isolation gave her more time to focus on her studies.
“When COVID hit, the uncertainty of not knowing was going to happen for the rest of the year was tough,” she said.
“However, when we all got stuck at home, the only thing we could’ve really done was study.
“We were robbed from enjoying the social part of being in year 12 and excursions but we were given more time to prepare for our exams and that was a huge bonus.”
Sam, who will be sitting five exams, said he found certain study techniques that worked for him.
“When I graduate, I am hoping to study aerospace engineering at the University of Adelaide, so for that I need to do well in my exams,” he said.
“Although the year has been tough, I have found that a hybrid learning style, working with study cards, reading summary notes and doing past practice exams has worked best for me.
“One of my teachers gave the class past exams from the year 1999 until now and that’s been a huge help.
“The school has been fantastic and I’ve also come in for holiday sessions, which has been great.”
Brianna said repetition is the key to success.
“I’ve been reading over my notes over and over, answering lots of questions and watching videos online,” she said.
“I hope to study a Bachelor of Science in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at Flinders and watching videos has been a huge help.
“When COVID hit, the year 12s were given the opportunity to use their year 11 SACE results towards their ATAR and for me that would’ve been an issue because I was on exchange last year.
“This meant I had to work as hard as I could to reach my goal.”
The trio look forward to completing the school year, attending prom and wish year 12s across the reg
