THE continued expansion of a major local almond processing facility drew South Australia’s top politicians to the Riverland yesterday.
Premier Steven Marshall and Attorney General Vickie Chapman toured AlmondCo’s new Renmark-based processing facility, ahead of a cabinet meeting of all 14 Liberal ministers in the region this week.
Mr Marshall said the project – due to be completed in July – would allow the co-operative to capitalise on a growing demand for almond-based products.
“This is my third or fourth visit to AlmondCo,” Mr Marshall said.
“It’s a major employer, a major exporter, a major co-operative piece of infrastructure and it’s always good to get an update.
“It’s such a significant asset for our state… we love to see the ambition of this co-operative and the success they’ve had in recent years.”
