THE RFL has made its decision surrounding a constitutional breach in Renmark's RFL A grade second semi-final clash with Waikerie on Saturday, with the Renmark win to stand despite the breach.
The commission heard Renmark’s side of the story at a meeting tonight after the club was found to have played an ineligible player in the contest.
The RFL determined that Renmark would receive a $5000 fine, with $2500 of it suspended for the next 24 months.
The club will also lose four premiership points for the 2023 season and will be allowed four fewer player-approved points than its rival RFL clubs next year.
RFL President Mark Wright said penalising Renmark with a loss for the weekend’s game was “looked at”, but ultimately decided against.
“The RFL spent considerable time looking at a number of penalty options,” Mr Wright said.
“There’s no doubt that there was a breach, so we had to, in line with our constitution and the best interest of the RFL, come up with a solution.
“One of those scenarios was the forfeiture of that match from Renmark, which would’ve seen Renmark play Loxton this week.
“But, in consideration of a number of options, we decided against that and went with what we gave.”
