Bracing for 3000… New location, same Mardi Gras magic
1 min read

A MUCH-loved Loxton event taking place this Saturday at the town’s number two oval has been given the green light to have up to 3000 patrons attend.
The Loxton Mardi Gras’s COVID management plan has been approved by SA Health, which will make the event the largest in the region in almost a year if it reaches capacity.
Loxton Mardi Gras event and publicity co-ordinator Chris Sheahan said he and the committee were “thrilled” to receive the news.
“We wouldn’t have been too worried if the COVID plan got rejected because we had a plan B, which meant we would have to limit the event to 1000 people maximum,” he said.
“Luckily we didn’t have to go to our plan B and we were able to go ahead as planned.
“I would say that ‘happy, pleased and relieved’ are the right adjectives I’m feeling.”
Mr Sheahan said he looks forward to seeing the community come together.
“There hasn’t been a carnival in the region since the last Mardi Gras so we’re all really excited,” he said.
“There will be great entertainment, floats, and food and market stalls and we have also been lucky to get a mobile ATM for the day.
“It’ll be great seeing everyone celebrate in a safe environment.”
The Loxton Mardi Gras committee encourages locals to pre-register for the free event and is still accepting float entries.
To register for either, visit the committee at the Loxton rotunda today, tomorrow or Friday from 10am to 1pm, the Loxton Library or the Loxton Mardi Gras website (https://www.loxtonmardigras.org.au/).
