‘UNFAIR’: teen social media ban begins today

RIVERLAND teens will no longer be able access popular social media platforms, with the Federal Government ban today coming into effect for those under 16.

Social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, X, Facebook and YouTube will now need to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under 16 years of age from having a social media account, or face up to significant financial penalties of up to $49.5m, with the Federal Government’s newly passed law, the Online Safety Amendment Bill 2024, now in effect.
