MID Murray Mayor Simone Bailey has announced she will avoid nominating for the role again at the upcoming council elections.
MID Murray Mayor Simone Bailey has announced she will avoid nominating for the role again at the upcoming council elections.
Ms Bailey has recently returned to Mayor duties after running a close second for the seat of Hammond at the recent State Election.
However, in a post on her Facebook page, Ms Bailey said "I believe the time is right for me to look for new challenges".
"After careful reflection, I feel I have achieved what I set out to do," the post read.
"Council is in a much stronger position.
"I will of course continue to work hard and complete my term through to the November council elections. However, I will not be nominating again for Mayor of Mid Murray."
Ms Bailey received 27 per cent of the first preference vote in Hammond at March's State Election.
One Nation candidate Robert Roylance claimed the seat with 54.9 per cent of the vote once preferences were counted.
Further details will be in next week's edition of The Murray Pioneer.
