Putting affordable energy first
I’VE been upfront about the hard truths of net zero - the spiralling costs, the unrealistic targets and the pressure on families, business and regional communities. I laid it out clearly in my recent message The Hard Truths About Net Zero.
I’VE been upfront about the hard truths of net zero - the spiralling costs, the unrealistic targets and the pressure on families, business and regional communities. I laid it out clearly in my recent message The Hard Truths About Net Zero.
This week, the Coalition adopted a new Affordable Energy Plan. It’s a practical, balanced path that puts lower power prices and reliability first, while still reducing emissions responsibly. I have pressed for this policy outcome on your behalf.
In Barker, households are paying hundreds more for electricity. Small businesses are failing and manufacturers warn that rising energy costs threaten their future.
Meanwhile, Labor chases expensive targets that will punish regional Australia. The new plan brings back honesty and practicality in energy policy - exactly what regional Australians need.
This plan puts affordable power first. It uses all of Australia’s strengths, including lifting the ban on zero-emissions nuclear technology. It creates a technology-agnostic approach to reliability to keep the lights on and prices stable.
It unlocks more Australian gas to protect consumers and push prices down. And it ends Labor’s unrealistic net zero targets that have driven prices up. This is responsible, achievable and grounded in economic reality - not ideology.
As I have always said: reduce emissions where practical - but not at the expense of our economy or the people who grow, build and power this nation. This plan supports families by lowering bills, strengthens industry by restoring certainty, delivers fairness for regions like ours, and uses Australia’s natural advantages to secure a stronger future.
This is the honest, realistic approach to energy Australia needs.
