A RIVERLAND woman’s desire to bring a new landmark to her community could see an historic boat find a new home.
Loxton woman Donna Neale has begun negotiations to purchase and re-locate the Murray River Queen
from Renmark.
Ms Neale – who is a co-operator of the Country Proud Clothing store in Loxton – hoped the vessel would be able to quickly restart its accommodation and dining options
“I have started the ball rolling on purchasing the Murray River Queen, so it’s all very exciting,” Ms Neale said.
“I’ve been in talks for quite a while with the people involved.
“Ideally, the accommodation is something we could get back up and rolling pretty quickly, and then looking to move it from Renmark if that all goes to plan.”
“There’s a lot of information, (but) no guarantee from the council it will go ahead yet. It’s all a bit surreal at the moment.”
The Murray River Queen has remained unused on the Renmark river front since last year.
Ms Neale said the vessel – which was moved to Renmark from Waikerie in 2017 – would be an appropriate landmark for the Loxton river front.
“Loxton is such a beautiful town,” she said.
“I was born in Loxton and I think we need something on the river front.
“Having the boat here would just be amazing.”
Renmark Paringa Council declined to comment on the situation when contacted by the Murray Pioneer.
