Futsal back with a bang for 2025

DESPITE the latest Riverland Soccer Association wrapping up as recently as last month, the round ball game is still well and truly alive in the region.

The latest Riverland futsal season got underway on Sunday, and a high-scoring clash between two teams in the men’s competition saw a whopping 25 goals.

The 2018 Cavs took on Men In Black in an afternoon fixture, and it went the way of the Cavs, following a sensational showing by Andy Son.

Son slammed in seven goals in a terrific effort, while a four-goal haul from Karan Kahlon saw the duo named in the best.

Dimitrios Kondoprios and James Darcy kept Men In Black involved in the contest with four goals each, and Matt Thomas tried hard, but it was ultimately all in vain.
It was a much tighter battle in the other men’s game, with competition regulars FC Espadas and ABCDE FC playing out a close contest.

The result went the way of Espadas, following a brace from Tony Mitchell and one from Cooper Ebert.

Crispin Mitchell and Vincent Vu performed well, while a brace from ABCDE FC’s Kevin Barber kept it in touch, but it was a bridge too far in the end.

The women’s competition saw a five-star trick from Tanika Van Gelderan, helping Kiss My Pass get past Mixed Muffins by 8-0, with a brace from Sammy Hauptman also important to the score.

Tastes Like Chicken defeated Rogue Raiders via forfeit in the same competition.
The mixed competition saw an exciting contest between Tastes Like Chicken and Kiss My Pass, with the ball finding the back of the net on 18 occasions.

Ultimately, it was Tastes Like Chicken that had the game on its terms, scoring 12 times to secure the six-goal win.

Andy Son finished with a hat-trick, while Tony Mitchell, Crispin Mitchell, Matilda Mitchell, and Vinnie Vu all scored twice.

Jessie Hammond finished with a hat-trick for Kiss My Pass, keeping it in the match, but it proved to be to little avail.

Elsewhere, Maradona Kebab picked up a 4-2 win, with all four goals coming via Ty Skilton, while BBQ Sauce had a 5-0 forfeit victory over Chicken Burgah.
