A CONVOY of love and respect rumbled through the Riverland on Tuesday for Peter Morelli.
Around 90 trucks formed a procession from Glossop to Cobdogla, then back along the lakefront to the Barmera Club, where a memorial service was held for Mr Morelli, who died suddenly last week.
Transport industry partipicants converged from the Riverland and beyond to honour the respected local business operator, sports administrator, community volunteer and family man, who forged many lasting bonds through his Sturt Highway business, MARS Transport Equipment (formerly Morelli’s Allweld Repairs Service), and his long association with the Barmera-Monash Football Club.
Local police blocked the Sturt Highway to ensure the convoy could negotiate its path safely. A capacity crowd packed the Barmera Club for the service, with many more outside for the mid-afternoon event.
Mr Morelli has been described as “a tireless community worker, dedicated to his family, friends and business”.
“His straightforward, unique personal manner masked a genuine heart of gold. He’ll be very sadly missed throughout the Barmera and wider Riverland community.”
