70 year anniversary since 1956...Peak memories flooding back

TODAY marks the 70th anniversary since the 1956 flood peaked at Cobdogla – and a local historian says the region’s most historic environmental disaster remains etched in the community’s memory.

Barmera branch of the National Trust of South Australia chair, John Beech, estimated the flood reached 14 feet above normal levels. He told The Murray Pioneer he hoped the community learned from the past.
