CONSTRUCTON is set to begin on Waikerie’s river-front redevelopment masterplan in October, thanks to a $400,000 injection from the State Government.
The District Council of Loxton Waikerie (DCLW) officially received the grant funding from the Planning and Development fund this week.
Council has contributed $496,819 to develop the river front’s west end.
DCLW Mayor Leon Stasinowsky said it is “important” to have shovel-ready projects to take advantage of the opportunities that arise.
“Council appreciate the State Government investing through this program to partner with council to continue the upgrade of the facilities at Waikerie,” he said.
“The Waikerie Delivers Committee facilitated the development of the masterplan for the river front, and now the council is delivering on those plans.”
Construction will begin in October this year and is expected to be completed in January 2021, with landscaping to follow from March to May 2021.
DCLW CEO David Beaton said with the work being completed on Peake Terrace, the new boat ramp, the Community Drought Funding, this grant, and the commitments from council, more than $4.5m will be invested into Waikerie infrastructure.
