I agree with Jakob Gamertsfelder regarding our government standing on cigarettes and alcohol (‘What we could learn from Bali’, Pioneer 17/5/23). Our leaders are hell bent on stopping smoking and pub drinking by implementing enormous taxes, GST and inflation. People are repeatedly treated like sheep and despite constant protesting, they are still moved from paddock to paddock. My answer, if you smoke and drink, and should you require related treatment, you should pay. By the way, I don’t smoke and am not a pub patron, but I do believe in human rights. Jacob, you have a great idea of scooter racing in Morgan, but I’m pretty sure that would be stonewalled with occupational health and safety, insurance issues, council approvals and many other provisions against. My guess is that the idea wouldn’t even get to the starting post.
