Riverlanders up for tennis awards

THE Riverland will be well represented during the Tennis SA awards this Friday night.
Due to restrictions, the awards ceremony will be streamed online, with Riverland clubs, schools and individuals finalists in five categories.
The Riverland Lawn Tennis Association is a finalist for the most outstanding rural competition award, while Cobdogla Primary School is up for most outstanding rural school.
The Renmark Tintra Tennis Club is nominated for the most outstanding rural tennis club award, while Cobdogla’s Shane Nettle is in the running for the rural volunteer achievement award.
The Berri Lawn View Tennis Club is up for most outstanding Australian ranking tournament after hosting the State Foundation Cup.
Riverland Lawn Tennis Association president John Pick said it was pleasing to see so many Riverland nominees.
“It is really good for our region in the Riverland and good for tennis, that we have got clubs that are stepping up and flying the flag,” he said.
Tennis SA CEO Debbie Sterrey said despite not being able to host the regular awards night, it was important to still acknowledge the work done by those in the tennis community over the past year.
“We were really disappointed to postpone the Tennis SA Awards Dinner earlier this year, but we are excited to announce that the Tennis SA Awards will now be a live-streamed event,” she said.
“It is very important that we recognise and celebrate the achievements of our players, coaches, clubs, schools, volunteers and communities over the past 12 months.
“Whilst we can’t all be together for the night, we are encouraging finalists to create their own COVID-friendly gatherings to watch the live stream.
“We also encourage everyone to interact with the event via our social media channels on the night.”
