THE Renmark Table Tennis Association (RTTA) officially made its return ahead of the 2025 season at the KM Tucker Hall.
The 2025 season will involve more than 40 players, made up of returning players and six new players to the club, with teams rebuilt after an exciting 2024.
Over the off-season a number of players worked on their skills, as seen in the inaugural RTTA Singles Competition held earlier this season, and will make a serious impact during the 2025 campaign.
This year has also seen another RTTA member make a state team, with Joel Stoeckel selected in the under 13 South Australian Table Tennis side, competing in the national finals in Taralgan later this year.
He showed his ongoing improvement and skill with a win in his debut round of senior table tennis this week and caught the eye of many observers for his skill, balance and ability to play the game at such a young age.
Round one of the season saw Rylan Coppin’s Whack-a-Ball get the better of Steve Watson’s Backhand Bandits, and Frank Sullivan’s Bit Edgy group defeat Barry Williams’ Net Ninjas.
The first game gave an early win to Whack-a-Ball, beating Backhand Bandits 15-9.
After falling 6-2 behind after the doubles, Backhand Bandits were always going to struggle for the rest of the night.
They recovered in the singles to nearly break-even, but were unable to close the gap, with captain Rylan Coppin leading from the front, and winning both his singles and doubles matches.
This was despite the efforts of Watson, who took the game deep, and held a strong lead midway through the fifth, before being unable to finish the game.
The second match saw Net Ninjas beat Bit Edgy 16-8, after the doubles the scores were still close, with Net Ninjas leading Bit Edgy 5-3.
However, in the singles, Bit Edgy only managed five wins, with Net Ninjas scoring the remaining 11.
Newcomer Alex Riddle, of Net Ninjas, played well, winning all of his singles and doubles, along with Asher Harris.
Sullivan will regroup Bit Edgy, and with some new players that can improve, the wait for a win should be a short one.
