Footy club mourns Duthie Medallist

THE Riverland football community is mourning 2021 Duthie Medallist Bradley Walkley, who died in a tragic car accident last night.

Walkley won the Riverland Football League Independent competition’s highest individual honour this season, his first for Sedan-Cambrai.

The Sedan-Cambrai Football and Netball Club took to Facebook this afternoon to pay tribute to the 23-year-old.

“It is with a heavy heart that we let you know that Brad Walkley was in a fatal car crash last night,” the post said.

“Brad will be remembered by the SCFNC community as not only a brilliant footballer, but as the happiest and friendliest mate and the most committed husband and dad.

“RIP Brad, you are going to be sorely missed by all.”

Immediately after winning the Duthie Medal, polling 21 votes, Walkley’s coach Chris Eaton said his star player was showing leadership potential.

“He is starting to now bring more guys into the game…” he said.

“We wanted him to be one of those good players that drags other guys up to another level, not just be the dominant force.”

Walkley was among Sedan-Cambrai’s best players in the 2021 grand final, when the Magpies went down to Mid-Murray neighbours Ramco by nine points.

He joined Sedan-Cambrai after a stint with South Gawler.
