AN encroachment onto a local hotel’s property has forced a Riverland council to consider realigning one of its main streets.
Renmark Paringa councillors passed a motion at last week’s general meeting to include the realignment of a section of Murray Avenue – between Pyap Street and Tapio Street – in council’s 2021/22 Annual Business Plan.
Renmark Paringa chief executive officer Tony Siviour said the alignment issue was identified following the sale of a property on Murray Avenue.
“It has been brought to council’s attention that council’s footpath on the section of Murray Avenue between Pyap (Street) and Tapio street encroaches onto private property,” Mr Siviour said.
“Council resolved at its April meeting to consider the relocation of the section of footpath as part of its 2021/2022 Annual Business Plan.”
It is understood council will liaise with the Renmark Hotel regarding the alignment of Murray Avenue and its encroachment onto the hotel’s property to determine if any action is required.
