Wind, cold to follow Riverland rain

STORM systems which saw more than 18mm of rain fall in parts of the Riverland on Anzac Day are expected to bring cold temperatures and windy conditions in the coming days.
The Renmark Airport Weather Station recorded 5.4mm of rain between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, with 5.4mm also recorded in Loxton.
A Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) spokesperson said the storm travelled quickly across the region.
“A rainband moved across the Riverland and that did have some embedded thunderstorms,” the spokesperson said.
“Rainfall totals were generally between five and 10 millimetres across the Riverland and the northern parts of the Murraylands district.
“The cloud was quite high in the atmosphere… so it was moving quite quickly across the state.”
Storms on Anzac Day then saw Loxton record 18.8mm of rain between Saturday night and Sunday morning, with Renmark receiving 9.4mm.
The BoM advised Riverlanders another storm system is expected to bring low temperatures and high winds during the week.
“There is another system moving through during the middle of (this) week,” the spokesperson said.
“That’s more likely to be one of those wintery cold fronts that will bring a lot of cold temperatures, heavy showers and hail, but probably mostly confined to the southern agricultural area.
“We will see some shower activity pushing up, but it won’t be as much.
“You will see some more rainfall, but it’s probably going to be more of a cold windy burst rather than large rainfall totals.”
