Waikerie art impresses locals

THE first of Waikerie’s street art murals is complete, with the bright and beautiful angel wings ready for interactive photos and poses.
Renmark artist Jacqui Mason painted the angel wings at the Waikerie White Street car park last week, and the mural has already been popular with school groups.
Project co-ordinator Donna Matthews said she has had “much positive feedback” from the community.
“I think it’s going to be a great drawcard for tourism,” she said.
“I would love Waikerie to develop a ‘street art trail’ with more art installations so if another community group or service club would like to raise funds for another art piece in Waikerie I would be happy to guide them.
“I am very happy with the final design and Jacqui has really bought my vision to life, she’s been a joy to work alongside.”
When COVID-19 border restrictions are lifted, artist Jimmy Dvate – who painted one of the Waikerie silo art – will return to paint a second mural in town.
Mrs Matthews said an Instagram page has been created for people to follow the street art progress.
“Again, a big thank you to the Loxton Waikerie council, and the community groups and businesses that donated money, services and accommodation to make this project possible,” she said.
“Thanks also to Liz Frankel who has been my go-to mentor for all things art throughout this journey.”
