Turn your trash into cash through art

LOCALS could win a share of $3000 if they keep their junk out of landfill and turn it into an art piece instead.
The Junk Art Sculpture Competition will return to Loxton this year, with entries now open.
Loxton Chamber of Commerce business and events manager Sonya Altschwager said she was “excited” to see the competition return.
“During Covid, we were expecting that maybe more people tinkered and they could have created more sculptures for entries this year,” she said.
The competition will see entrants judged in either open or youth categories, with prizes for winners, merits and people’s choice.
Entrants are required to use only recycled, reused, reclaimed, discarded or salvaged every-day materials.
Ms Altschwager said the Junk Art Sculpture Competition was a “drawcard” for the Arts on Terrace event, to be held on Sunday, August 8, in Loxton.
“We are happy to have the competition back and we are expecting to have a good crowd to wander through on the day,” she said.
This year’s Arts on Terrace event will include creative workshops and opportunities to meet local artists.
Entries for the junk art competition close on Friday, July 30, at 5pm. For more information, contact 0427 064 825 or email (admin@loxtonchamber.com.au).
