Students’ heart-warming gesture

A BERRI school displayed random acts of kindness last week by delivering messages of gratitude to local businesses.
More than 60 appreciation cards were made by students at Our Lady of the River School last Monday to say thank-you to a number of local businesses who are struggling amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Renmark and Berri Subway operations manager David Sims, who received a card from year 5 student Ruby, described the gesture as “heart-warming”.
“It’s been well-publicised how much local businesses have been struggling throughout the pandemic and receiving the card brightened our day,” he said.
“It was really nice to receive the acknowledgement from the community that yes, we are struggling and yes, staying in business is important for students and the wider community.”
Religious education co-ordinator Rosemary Perre said the positive feedback local businesses have given the school was “amazing”.
“We (the school) are always looking at ways we can encourage students to share their passions and humble qualities that make the world a better place,” she said.
“Creating the cards was an activity during Catholic Education Week and we weren’t expecting the large response we received.
“We just wanted to show our gratitude for people who got up daily and went out to work because they had to.
“Everyone is doing their part and many businesses have remained open with workers being selfless and facing the possibility they could come in contact with the virus and not knowing it.”
