Students’ can do atttitude

A GROUP of Renmark North School students helped support local families in need last week by contributing to a special cause.
The eight students, who are part of the school’s senior K for Kindness group, joined Magic 93.1 breakfast hosts Scudda and Maddie at the Berri Oval last Friday morning to donate to the station’s Foodbank Food Drive, with all donations going to Foodbank Riverland.
Renmark North School wellbeing leader Danielle Woolford said the students were proud to have a significant number of cans lay on the line.
“One of the students heard about the food drive on the radio and she approached me asking if we could participate,” she said.
“At the beginning of last week, I got the girls together and we started collecting cans.
“The wider school community helped contribute and all together we had over 90 cans and non-perishable goods.”
Mrs Woolford said she was proud of her students.
“The K for Kindness program focuses on building kindness, empathy and resilience into the children and the girls have done an amazing job in showing their gratitude,” she said.
“It was great to see how from just one student coming up with idea that they all thought of ways to contribute to the cause and help make the food drive a success.”
Year 5 student Ocea, who was the girl that heard about the food drive on the radio, said it “felt good” to help out.
“There are people starving in the Riverland so it’s nice that we can help them and give them food to eat,” she said.
“The girls and I felt happy knowing we are helping people and making them happy.”
