Slip lane remedy in sight

FOLLOWING more than 10 months of concerns for Holder residents, a Sturt Highway roadworks oversight could be rectified before the end of the year.
Notorious for driving hazards, and following several serious car crashes at the site, the intersection was granted a Federal Government Black Spot grant program funding of $1.52 million in 2017 to improve safety.
The works were completed in late 2019 with right-turning lanes installed – but a noticeable lack of left-turning slip lanes.
Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone told the Murray Pioneer the State Department for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) recently engaged a consultant to undertake design plans for a left-turning slip lane from the Sturt Highway onto Holder Top Road.
“(DPTI) has measured out where the slip lane will go, which will include moving at least two streetlights,” he said.
“Of the $87.5 million to upgrade the Sturt Highway from Gawler to Renmark, an allowance will be made to remedy this slip lane situation.
“The design and costings are set to be completed by the end of October, and I’m hoping that the works themselves will be finished before the end of the year.”
