Rubbish truck makes a hasty stop

A RUBBISH truck was forced to empty its contents in Renmark on Friday after an item in its cargo set the pile alight.
MFS regional commander Garrick Lehmann said the driver of the truck noticed smoke issuing from the rubbish in the rear of the vehicle just before 7am, and promptly parked in the vacant land on the corner of Eighteenth and Para Street.
He said the driver proceeded to empty the load onto the vacant block, where Renmark and Berri MFS crews spent an hour trying to extinguish the burning pile.
The Renmark Paringa Council were notified and also attended the scene with a front end loader to assist with breaking apart the rubbish pile.
No one was injured, and no damage was sustained to the truck.
Mr Lehmann reminded the public to be mindful of not placing any hot items, such as coals or remains from combustion heaters, into rubbish bins.
