Rotary Club event to start men’s health conversation

A LOCAL service club will host a special breakfast promoting and raising awareness for men’s health.
The Rotary Club of Loxton, in partnership with the Loxton Community Men’s Shed, will be holding a free breakfast at the shed on Thursday, October 29, with special guest Doctor Richard ‘Dick’ Wilson giving a presentation and taking questions from those in attendance.
Dr Wilson previously spoke at the Loxton Men’s Shed in 2017, with over 70 men from the community attending.
Dr Wilson’s presentation was praised for the “down-to-earth” manner in which he spoke about men’s health, with specific attention given to the challenges and stressors that men may face without seeking help.
The event is part of the Rotary Club of Loxton’s long-term advocacy for improving the promotion of men’s health in the Riverland and its active support of the development and success of the Loxton Community Men’s Shed.
Rotarian and Loxton Men’s Shed secretary Des Schliebs said local men had learnt a lot from Dr Wilson, and that attendees would feel comfortable to ask Dr Wilson questions.
“He’s a very laid-back and humorous presenter of men’s health information,” Mr Schliebs said.
“It is a very comfortable setting and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it last time when he was here.”
Mr Schliebs said bookings for the breakfast were necessary due to current limitations on venue capacity.
“In the current climate we are looking to cater for about 50 to 60 people, so bookings are essential if you wish to come along,” he said.
To book in for the breakfast and Dr Wilson’s presentation, or for more information, contact Des Schliebs on 0458 082 247.
