Ron reaches the big 100

FORMER Riverlander and legend of the Taylor Group, Ron Rosenberg, will celebrate his 100th birthday next week.
Born on July 28, 1920, Ron grew up “all over the place” on account of his father being a police officer, but came to settle in the Riverland after being discharged from the army in 1946.
He married his wife Dorothy in 1949, and began his employment at the Murray Pioneer in 1950.
Ron worked as the company’s secretary for 34 years, becoming a much-loved employee of the business.
He says he has fond memories of his time working at the Murray Pioneer.
“The Taylor family were fantastic people to work for,” Ron said.
“I really enjoyed my work and I worked for three generations of the Taylor family, Gilmore, Darnley and Ben.”
Ron says he “loved” living in the Riverland and was a keen bowls player and fisherman.
“There might be a few people who still know me because I played bowls all over the Riverland,” he said.
“I still recognise some of the names in the Pioneer from my bowling days.”
Ron says he still keeps up with everything happening in the Riverland, reading the Murray Pioneer when it is delivered to his unit at Townsend Park Retirement Village at Hove each week where he has been for 16 years.
Ron will celebrate his 100th birthday milestone with daughter Ann and her family and his sister Noreen, while he says the Retirement Village will put on a morning tea for him.
Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 situation, his step-son John, who is based in Pemberton, Western Australia and other friends and family can’t make the trip to SA to celebrate with him.
Ron says his secret to reaching the big 100 is starting each day with a decent breakfast and capping it off in the evening with a glass of red wine.
