Riverland soccer set sights on 12-week season

THE Riverland Soccer Association is aiming to complete a 12-week season, with the opening round scheduled for next month.
After having its originally scheduled season launch of Sunday, April 26, postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Riverland Soccer Association is currently looking at June 28 as its new starting date.
RSA president Michael Cartwright said in a statement on Facebook last Tuesday night that the executive committee and clubs are currently focussed on a return to training.
“The RSA executive committee met tonight to discuss the return to training road map distributed by the Football SA late last week,” he said.
“All clubs are working hard to develop strategies to ensure we comply with the directions imposed by the FSA for the return to training.
“This will include skill-based training until further direction.”
Mr Cartwright said the executive committee are still set on there being a 2020 season.
“At this time we are still committed to having a 12-week season commencing late June (tentatively 28th June, if permitted), but we need players to commit to the 2020 season by notifying your club of your intention to play,” he said.
“Please note that we are doing everything possible to keep fees for the season to a minimum but there are a number of charges that we are locked into, these include payments for match officials, insurance and association affiliation fees.”
Mr Cartwright encouraged people to register their interest for this season with their local clubs.
“Please email your commitment to play to your club registrar so we can continue to plan for the season ahead,” he said.
“Without players commitment we may be unable to field all grades so it’s important you commit as early as possible.”
