Reptiles and the rain moth

REPTILES are the word in Waikerie as primary school students add the finishing touches to their mixed media artwork which will be on display at the Rain Moth Gallery starting today.
Waikerie Primary School (WPS) students will showcase their work at the Rain Moth Gallery’s latest exhibition, Rapt in Reptiles, from September 30 to the end of November.
Rain Moth Gallery chair Karen Richardson said the exhibition will feature over 250 pieces of mixed-media works highlighting Riverland reptiles.
“Birds and mammals usually rate highly as preferred subjects of artwork, but in this exhibition, each class has focused their work on one aspect of local reptiles – their habitiat, with hints on how to make a reptile friendly habitat in your own backyard,” she said.
“Snakes, frogs, turtles, lizards and geckos, and reptile predators will all be displayed in paint, ceramics, collage and textiles to make this a creative and colourful display.
“Visiting the gallery during the second week of the school holidays will be one of the must-do activities for both children and adults.
“A number of interactive activies will be available to make this a real learning experience, as the gallery is also a learning destination site for those students involved in the Children’s University program.”
School groups across the Riverland are invited to make a class booking in Term 4 to see the exhibition by contacting the Rain Moth Gallery on 0435 648 282 or rainmothgallery.waikerie@gmail.com
The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10.30am to 2.30pm, and Saturday 10am to 1pm.
