Ratepayer stadium contribution to be recognised

BERRI Barmera Council’s funding support for a local stadium will soon be recognised by a pair of new signs.
At June’s ordinary council meeting, elected members voted to install signs at the Riverland Regional Innovation and Sports Precinct that acknowledge the “support and contribution provided to sporting and community organisations by council and its ratepayers”.
Berri Barmera Council CEO Karyn Burton said council would likely consider displaying similar signage at other locations.
“We will probably also identify other assets that council has put a lot of money into and doing something similar I would expect,” she said.
“For a long time, we’ve said that we don’t sign our assets well enough to acknowledge that a lot of the money for ovals, reserves and more comes from ratepayers.”
The signs will be located near the entrances to the basketball and netball facilities, and the gymnastics facility.
The decision follows a recent sponsorship agreement between the precinct’s key user group and the Berri Hotel that will see hotel signage installed on the complex.
