Rain Moth Gallery opens its doors for local artists

A WAIKERIE art gallery reopened its doors this week, and is encouraging any local artists who have been creative during quarantine to reach out and display their work for its current exhibition.
Waikerie’s Rain Moth Gallery opened its doors on Monday in preparation for the coming long weekend.
Gallery chair Karen Richardson said exhibition space is currently available for local artists, with a view of selling to show off
their work.
“Due to the gallery’s closure, two exhibitons had to be postponed, but we will be able to resume the rest of the planned program for 2020,” she said.
“This will include the South Australia Living Arts (SALA) exhibition to be held in August and September, followed by a children’s art exhibition in October and November.
“In the meantime, during June and July, the gallery would like to open up one of its vacant exhibition rooms for local artists.
“Any Riverland artists who have been busy creating while in isolation and also wish to exhibit their work can contact our exhibition co-ordinator Alannah Cheshire on 0427 077 490 to register their interest.”
The gallery is also holding a “pre-loved” art sale. Mrs Richardson said all the artwork is either original or limited edition.
“Most of us have purchased – or even inherited – pieces that no longer suit our décor, taste or have never found that special spot on the wall to hang,” she said.
“The gallery is happy to accept these pieces as donations or sell on consignment for you.
“All artwork must be original pieces or limited edition prints and would be hung at the discretion of the Rain Moth committee.
“This may be the opportunity to find a new home for your once cherished artwork.
“A number of people have already expressed interest in this, so once again, contact the gallery if you would like to contribute.”
Meanwhile, Rain Moth Gallery volunteers enjoyed an afternoon tea recently for Volunteer’s Week in recognition of the time and effort they spend at the gallery.
Contact the Rain Moth Gallery for further information on 0435 648 282 or rainmothgallery.waikerie@gmail.com. Follow the Facebook page for updates or changes to the opening hours.
Rain Moth Gallery opening hours are 10.30am to 2pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 10am to 1pm Saturday.
