Put a vote behind local agriculture, says Tim

RIVERLANDERS have been urged to show support for a number of local towns named as finalists for an upcoming state agricultural award.
Voting has now opened for the 2020 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year award, with Renmark, Waikerie, Loxton, Berri and Moorook all named among the 70 finalists.
Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone said having five Riverland towns nominated illustrated the importance of the region’s agricultural industry.
“I’m pleased to see five Riverland towns in the running to be finalists and ultimately take home the title of Ag Town of the Year,” Mr Whetstone said.
“The large number of nominations just highlights the importance of our regional area to the state.
“Our local communities’ spirit is a testament to the resilience of the region, as our primary production sectors have prevailed through recent challenges such as hailstorms, drought, high water prices and now, COVID-19.
“The awards are about acknowledging the positive impact the agriculture industry has on regional areas, including the flow-on effect to small townships and communities.”
