Protect the (bowling) greens

A RIVERLAND West bowls club will rest easy soon with its greens protected from wind and vermin thanks to a council grant fund.
The Morgan Bowling Club was granted $5000 from the Mid Murray Council’s (MMC) small community grants program to set up a fence around its greens.
Club spokesperson Linda Hausler said since pine trees were removed from the land by SA Water, wind and vermin has damaged the greens.
“The bowling club is situated right next to SA Water, which removed a section of pine trees recently which were apparently contaminating some of their tanks,” she said.
“The pine trees were a bit of a wind break for the greens, and since then, the wind – plus kangaroos and other vermin – have made a bit of a mess on the greens.
“It’s been a pain for us to try and clean up every week, so this grant funding to set up a fence is really excellent.”
The Morgan Bowling Club plans to have the fence erected around the greens in the next six weeks, and will use local contractors for the work.
“We’ve had the fence pegged out, and we’ll have someone come around to drill the holes soon,” Ms Hausler said.
“The greens will be back to normal soon after that, and they’ll be in great condition for the 2020/21 bowls season.
“A big thank you to the Mid Murray Council for supplying us with this grant funding, and all the locals who support us.”
