Pasin’s plea to stay COVIDSafe

A LOCAL politician has pleaded with the community to download the COVIDSafe app, but some Riverlanders are still unsure about the safety of the program.
A poll conducted by the Murray Pioneer shows over half (547) of respondents have no intention of downloading the app, while 483 people said they will download the app.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin said life will get back to normal faster if more people download the app.
“Australians have been doing an amazing job at following the advice of experts and as a result we have seen a decline in COVID-19 cases around the country,” he said.
“Like all Australians I want things to get back to normal as quickly as possible and the more people that download the app the quicker this can happen.
“Lifting restrictions depends very much on our ability to conduct comprehensive contact tracing which is what the COVIDSafe app allows.
“If you want to get back to playing sport, watching it, maybe visiting the pub or perhaps dining out with friends then download the app.”
The COVIDSafe app has been downloaded approximately five million times by Australians across the country, with legislation protecting the data of users set to be debated in Parliament next week.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said last week using the app would ensure Australian businesses could recover quickly from the coronavirus emergency.
“We need that tool so that we can open up the economy… it’s over to you, Australia,” he said.
