Osten’s BMX plans get green light

ONE double maths lesson is all it took for a young local to design a BMX track, soon to be constructed at Loxton North.
Osten Cook, 14, together with the Loxton North Recreation Grounds Committee and volunteers, will transform large mounds of dirt already near the oval into a BMX track in coming weeks.
Osten said he was “keen as” and made sure the BMX track was inclusive of all ages.
“I thought we’d make two separate tracks; one that is a bit bigger and one that is a bit smaller for the younger kids,” he said.
“I have mates who ride out to football training, so before trainings start, we’ll be able to come here and people from the school will be able to come here after school.”
Osten approached Loxton Waikerie council about the BMX track and then began speaking to Loxton North Recreation Grounds Committee chairperson Max Gray to begin the project.
The Loxton North Recreation Grounds Committee asked Loxton Waikerie council to approve the construction of the BMX track to be completed by volunteers.
Council gave the project the green light at last month’s meeting, with the track to use existing dirt at the site and volunteer labour.
Works to the track are expected to begin in coming weeks.
