More retirement units on the cards

LOXTON could soon be home to more retirement village units, with an expansion to be investigated.
Loxton Retirement Village is owned by the Loxton Waikerie council and currently offers 100 independent living units.
At last month’s Loxton Waikerie council meeting, elected members agreed to investigate a master plan for a further expansion of the village.
Council CEO David Beaton said about 150 people are currently on a waiting list for a retirement village unit.
“There is certainly a market there,” he said.
As part of the investigation, council will look to purchase Lot 400, Bookpurnong Road, Loxton.
The block of land is situated west of the current retirement village and north-west of the Loxton tennis courts and dog park.
The Loxton Retirement Village opened in 1994 and has developed in five stages.
Its latest development was opened in 2009.
