Medal 22 years in the making

A FORMER high school student was “delighted” to receive a sports day medal 22 years after the event.
Waikerie High School (WHS) old scholar David Mee tied for the sports day individual medal in 1998 and finally received his prize last week.
“I was doing some work at the school a few months ago, and principal Craig Griffiths asked me what I remembered about my time as a student,” Mr Mee said.
“I joked that I had never received the medal I won at a sports day, and we had a bit of a laugh about it – but I never expected him to go out and get one made up for me.
“(Mr Griffiths) was a teacher when I was a student, so he remembered that as well, and this year he went to the trouble of getting it engraved and everything.
“I’m very touched and thankful to him and the school. It’s just another reminder of how good this community is to each other.”
