Mardi Gras giving back to community

LOXTON Mardi Gras has injected $10,000 back into the community, thanks to the generosity of local businesses and hardworking ambassador entrants.
After the successful February event, Loxton Mardi Gras invited local groups to apply for community funding.
Loxton Mardi Gras chairperson Liz Dymmott said recipients were invited to the recent annual general meeting to collect their grants.
“Due to public support, we were able to distribute as many funds as we did,” she said.
Funds were given to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Loxton Football and Sporting Club, Loxton Show Society and Loxton Mill Corner Historical Precinct.
Meanwhile, Peter and Carla Magarey were made Loxton Mardi Gras life members on the night.
“Peter has served many years as chairman and also taken on the role of parade co-ordinator,” Mrs Dymmott said.
“Carla still holds the position of secretary and has for many years.
“She does above and beyond what is normally expected of a secretary.”
Next year’s Loxton Mardi Gras event will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, with the theme ‘celebration’.
