Loxton's night of nostalgia

A LOXTON Mardi Gras event featuring precious film footage of Loxton will transport attendees back in time to the town’s earlier days.
The committee will host a Night of Nostalgia film night on Saturday, November 14, from 7pm at the Loxton Historical Village’s Institute, in lieu of the annual Alawoona Strawberry Fete event which has had to be cancelled due to COVID restrictions.
Loxton Mardi Gras committee member and Loxton Historical Village volunteer Nola Schulz said the idea came about after coming across some old films showing Loxton’s history.
“At this Nostalgia Night there will be a good collection of films now in digital form with audio, showing original shops and buildings in the main street, plus life with farming, agriculture, irrigation and the fruit block settlements,” she said.
“This professionally produced footage is well narrated and quite jovial with the choice of songs for different scenes.
“There will also be some newer footage in colour which ties in together with local events and it’s really well done.
“Some of these films have not been seen by many people and the nostalgia will help to celebrate this year as being the 125th year of farming settlement in Loxton.
“The Village Institute is an ideal venue. Thanks to the Village committee for being very supporting in getting this event happening.”
Ms Schulz said COVID restrictions will be in place.
“The committee also has worked hard in ensuring this event is COVID-safe,” she said.
“Pre-booking is essential, with a limit of 50 people in the Institute and people will be signing in when they arrive.
Ms Schulz said tickets are selling fast.
“Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Village or Loxton’s Scarfe’s Electronics,” she said.
“The ticket price includes admission and supper, with a raffle available and drawn on the night.”
