Loxton RSL to continue its ANZAC service

ANZAC Day services across the country have been cancelled due to the coronavirus, but it has not stopped the Loxton RSL from commemorating those who have served.
Loxton RSL President Rob Manuel said the restrictions have meant the service has to unfortunately be performed privately, but they will still be performing the traditional rites nonetheless.
“We’ll have an ANZAC service (where) we’ll take an ANZAC address and the minister address to the full,” Mr Manuel said.
“Then, we’ll have the ode, the last post, the minute of silence, the route, and the national anthem.
“With that, we’ll put it on a USB stick, and then we’re going to take that to the Lutheran rest home and to the hospitals to put in place for their members.”
Mr Manuel said the RSL would also have its traditional service that morning.
“We’ll go to the cross of sacrifice at Loxton and lay three wreaths – one for the RSL, the Vietnam veterans, and the legacies,” he said.
“We’ll (also) make sure our flags are half-mast for the ANZAC morning.
“Other than that, I don’t think there’s a lot more you can do.”
Mr Manuel said a couple of RSL members had discussed standing out front of their houses that morning to hold a minute of silence while the last post plays.
He also said the public was welcome to lay a wreath at the Cross of Sacrifice sometime during the day if they would like to pay their respects.
“We should remember what the ANZACs and the people who served in the different wars have done for us and the life we live today,” Mr Manuel said.
“We should honour them.”
