Loxton North School gets camera ready

LOXTON North School filmed its virtual school tour video earlier this month, which will be used to promote the school’s assets to potential families across the Riverland.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, the school has had to find new ways to promote itself to potential families.
The virtual tour allows students and prospective families to see what occurs during a ‘normal’ school day that they might otherwise not know about or have seen.
Loxton North School Principal Vanessa Wainwright said the video gave parents the chance to explore the school grounds and see what the school has to offer.
“Because we’re off the main road, people often don’t come by and see us, and forget that we’re actually here, so it was a way to promote our school,” she said.
“The other reason we did it was because our parents come into the school and it shows them what children are learning and doing throughout the entire day.”
The school collaborated with Loxton local John DeCaux from Six Foot Four Productions, who has filmed other promotional videos around town in the past, to create the virtual tour over two days.
The footage filmed will also be used for future promotional videos and marketing photos, and will be available for distribution during the third week of next term.
Ms Wainwright said members of the community can access the tour on the school’s website, and students’ families will receive it on a USB.
“It’s just a way to connect and share what’s been happening at school,” she said.
“What people actually don’t see is how children learn and how teachers cater for students in differing age groups.
“If you’ve got a multi-level like the year two and three class, how do you meet the students need?
“So it catches those learning elements as well as all the other facilities in our school, which you can see in action.
“This will tie in nicely to remind people to start planning for next year because we begin our transmission program in term four.”
