Loxton history night to return

STEPHANIE THOMPSON
THREE guest speakers will take to the stage in Loxton next month for a history night being staged for the ninth time.
The Loxton History Sure Ain’t Boring event, which is part of South Australia’s History Festival, provides a platform for speakers to share a presentation about the Loxton district’s history.
This year’s attendees will hear the following talks:
- Jeff Drogemuller – ‘An early village to thriving township’. Moorook settlement to present.
- John Gladigau – ‘ Changes through the ages’. The revolutionary change in farming since it began in Loxton and the surrounding districts.
- Peter Magarey – ‘Large oaks from small acorns’. Ideas and innovations out of the Loxton Research Centre.
With last year’s event cancelled due to COVID, organising committee co-ordinator Trevor Fielke said he hoped the community would show its support by attending the event.
“We are looking forward to the recommencement of the successful nights,” he said.
The 2019 event saw Neville Rosenzweig speak about Pyap and Mr Fielke said he was looking forward to Jeff Drogemuller’s presentation about another outlying area this year.
“Moorook is part of the Loxton district and always has been, so we felt like it was a good topic,” he said.
About 200 people attend the event each year.
Loxton History Sure Ain’t Boring will be held at the Loxton Sports Club on Tuesday, May 4 at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
Tickets are $5 for adults and are available at the Loxton Public Library and Loxton council office.
Students are free.
