Loxton Historical Village’s long weekend a success

ALTHOUGH the Loxton Historical Village had a modified Alive Day over the long weekend, almost 500 people visited and took part in the many activities, which exceeded the committee’s expectations.
Loxton Historical Village co-ordinator Julie Noble said she was pleased with the numbers.
“We (the committee) knew it was going to be busy, but we had no idea how many people would actually come,” she said.
“We were so happy to see so many people come and that they were spread over the three days, which we had hoped.”
Ms Noble said the activities and food were both popular.
“Being so hot we sold a lot of ice-creams, which was great,” she said.
“The sausage sizzle we put on daily was a huge hit but the Loxton Hospital’s hot doughnuts were very popular on the Saturday.
“Erin Taylor had 19 participants at her paint-a-bowl sessions on Saturday, with children and families participating – we saw some lovely results.
“The free fun painting sessions put on by members of the Loxton Art Group were very well attended with many colourful pictures made on Sunday, and interesting creations made on Monday morning – held in the Institute where some of the Art Group members’ artworks were on display.
“There were a few extra old-fashioned outdoor games for the children and they were also very popular.”
Ms Noble said due to COVID, the village missed having some demonstrations and activities.
“Visitors missed being able to see the shearing, printing, rope making and black-smithing demonstrations which we normally have on Alive Day and it was a shame,” she said.
“Even without any extra activities the Loxton Historical Village is always an amazing place to visit with so many historical exhibits and interesting things to see.
“It felt best to not run them due to COVID restrictions and everyone seemed to have a great time regardless.”
Ms Noble said all earnings from the weekend have gone towards the upkeep and improvements of the Loxton Historical Village.
