Loxton Basketball Club’s history on the big screen

LOXTON’S basketball history will be front and centre when a special documentary is premiered this weekend.
The 45-minute film is being unveiled at the Loxton Amateur Basketball Association’s 70th anniversary celebrations at The Precinct Loxton on Saturday.
Documentary writer and director John DeCaux, of Six Foot Four Productions, said he was looking forward to the unveiling the film, which has been in the making for the past year.
“It’s come together really well,” he said.
“It’s longer than I anticipated, but it really tells a story about the reasons why Loxton Amateur Basketball Club is special because of the way it started.”
In 1949, a single photo in an American sports magazine inspired a group of Loxton locals to try and figure out the rules to basketball.
The Loxton Amateur Basketball Association was then formed and is now celebrating its 70th anniversary with the opening of the new sporting complex.
Mr DeCaux said the project was made possible by funding from Regional Arts Australia, Country Arts SA, and the District Council of Loxton Waikerie, along with the tireless efforts of local man Greg Coombs.
