Locals rock and roll for charity

MORE than 80 people put on their dancing shoes recently to help raise funds for a global children’s charity.
The Riverland’s River Rock Rockers SA committee held a charity fundraiser on Saturday, July 10, at the Monash Club, to support Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The event, which was dubbed Dance for Sick Kids, had a yellow and black theme, while music by Adelaide’s DJ Ron had attendees rock and roll dancing all night.
A total of $1565 was raised and event organiser Dawn Pendle said she was grateful for the community’s support.
“Everyone has family and friends nationwide who you can’t always be there for when they have a sick child,” she said. “Some families need help when it comes to caring for a sick child, such as a place to stay while the child is in hospital.
“One of the group’s committee members had gone through a situation like this so we thought we should do whatever we can to help other families in need.”
Ms Pendle said people were generous with donations.
“The event had a $10 entry fee, there was a raffle, and a barbecue prior to the event,” she said.
“All raffle prizes were donated and we sold many tickets.
“The local dance club paid for all costs on the night, such as accommodation for DJ Ron, who travelled to be with us.”
Ms Pendle will be accepting donations until the end of the week and encourages people to join the club, which meets every Monday from 7pm to 10pm.
