Locals help op shop thrive

THE community’s ongoing support to a local op shop has allowed the Loxton Rotary Club to continue with important projects and serve the community during these “tough times”.
Donations and continued support through purchases of the Loxton Rotary Club’s op shop’s wide variety of goods have left the committee “grateful”.
Loxton Rotary Club president Jenny Mills said providing services to locals during times like these has been “challenging”.
“For quite a while we had to close the op shop, due to COVID,” she said.
“We rely on donations and sales to help us serve the community so in order to reopen, we had to carefully consider how we needed to adjust some of our work practices and management of our donations for sale.
“This required us to carefully sort through donations and use careful practices for sanitising and storing our goods so enough room is allowed in the store for customers.”
Ms Mills said the 25 volunteers at the shop are in the process of putting out spring stock.
“We rotate our stock regularly to keep everything fresh and airy and keep up with the seasons,” she said.
“Anything that isn’t sold within two to three weeks either gets a price reduction or we donate the items to other organisations, such as the domestic violence shelter, Loxcare and schools to name a few.
“We are currently in the process of putting out lots of Christmas items too, so soon there will be lots of toys and ornaments up for sale.”
Ms Mills said in addition to serving the community with goods, the club also supports scholarships for local students.
“Supporting youth programs is an important focus of ours,” she said.
“We love helping local kids reach their goals.”
The Loxton Rotary Club op shop is open 9am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12 noon on Saturday.
Donations can be made out of hours via the bin at the front and all funds go towards the local community.
